GRANTS & FUNDING
Stairlift Grants & Funding
If you need a stairlift because of a disability or mobility need, financial help may be available towards the cost of adapting your home.
We do not award grants ourselves, but we regularly work with customers whose stairlifts are being funded or supported through their local authority. We can survey the staircase, recommend a suitable solution and provide the detailed quotation needed for the process.
DISABLED FACILITIES GRANTS
Your local authority may help with the cost
Disabled Facilities Grants are available through local authorities in England and Wales to help eligible people make necessary adaptations to their homes. A stairlift is specifically included among the types of adaptation that may qualify. Applications are made through your local council, which will assess both the person’s needs and whether the proposed work is suitable for the property.
South Wales
In Wales, support for home adaptations is available through local authorities, including Disabled Facilities Grants and the ENABLE programme. Stairlifts are specifically recognised as an eligible type of adaptation.
Yate & England
In England, Disabled Facilities Grants are administered by the local council and can contribute towards adaptations such as stairlifts, ramps and accessible bathrooms.
Assessment
The council may arrange for an occupational therapist or trained assessor to look at what changes are needed before funding is approved.
HOW IT WORKS
Funding usually starts with your council
1
Contact Your Local Authority
Speak to your council or adult social care team and explain the difficulties you are having accessing your home.
2
Your Needs Are Assessed
An occupational therapist or other assessor may visit to determine what adaptation would appropriately meet your needs.
3
The Work Is Agreed
If a stairlift is recommended, the council will explain the funding route, eligibility requirements and any contribution you may need to make.
4
We Provide the Stairlift Information
We can survey the staircase and provide the quotation and technical information required for the proposed installation.
ELIGIBILITY
Funding depends on your circumstances
Eligibility is determined by the local authority rather than by us. The council will consider whether the adaptation is necessary and appropriate and whether the proposed work is reasonable for the property.
For Disabled Facilities Grants, financial assessment rules vary according to circumstances. GOV.UK currently states that grant amounts can depend on household income and savings, while adaptations for disabled children under 18 are not assessed against their parents’ income.
HOW IT WORKS
If grant funding is not available
A grant is not the only way to reduce the upfront cost of a stairlift. Depending on your staircase and what is currently available, we may also be able to offer other options.
Reconditioned Stairlifts
A professionally refurbished stairlift can provide a lower-cost option for suitable staircases.
