CHOOSING YOUR WHEELCHAIR
Self-propelled or attendant-propelled?
The main difference is who provides the movement. Self-propelled wheelchairs have large rear wheels with hand rims so the user can move the chair themselves. Attendant-propelled, or transit, wheelchairs use smaller rear wheels and are designed primarily to be pushed by another person.

The right chair is about more than weight
A lightweight frame helps with lifting and transport, but seat dimensions, folding size, wheel type and adjustability all affect how practical a wheelchair is day to day.
Weight & Folding
If the chair regularly travels in a car, look at both its total weight and which parts can be removed before lifting.
Seat Size
Seat width and depth affect both comfort and the overall width of the wheelchair.
Arms & Legrests
Swing-away or removable legrests and adjustable armrests can make transfers and positioning easier.
Wheels & Terrain
Wheel and tyre design affects how the chair handles different surfaces. Models such as the G-Explorer use larger, more rugged tyres specifically for less even ground.

Several wheelchairs in the Bush range are designed specifically around lower weight and compact storage. The AeroMg range uses a magnesium-alloy frame, while models such as the Access and Icon 35LX provide lightweight attendant-propelled options for travel and occasional use.

The X5 Plus HD is an attendant-propelled wheelchair designed for users who need a wider, more substantial chair without losing the practicality of a folding frame.
With seat widths of 22, 24 and 26 inches and a maximum user weight of 160 kg (25 stone), it offers considerably more space than a standard transit wheelchair. The folding backrest, removable armrests and swing-away legrests also make everyday transfers, transport and storage easier.

Is the X5 Plus suitable for larger users?
Yes. The X5 Plus HD is specifically designed as a heavy-duty wheelchair, with extra-wide 22, 24 and 26-inch seat options and a maximum user weight of 160 kg (25 stone). That gives considerably more room than most standard attendant wheelchairs.
Can the X5 Plus be folded for transport?
Yes. The frame folds, the backrest folds down and the legrests can be removed, helping reduce the chair’s overall size for storage or transport. The armrests can also flip back or be removed to make transfers easier.
Is the X5 Plus comfortable for regular use?
The chair includes a padded seat cushion, a tension-adjustable backrest and height-adjustable legrests, allowing the seating position to be adapted more closely to the user. It is designed for anything from occasional use through to more regular everyday use.
